SPECIAL NOTICE

The qualifying examination as prescribed under clause (c)(ii) of subsection (1) of section 126 of the Patents Act, 1970 as amended under Patents (Amendment) Act. 2002 read with Rule 110 of the Patents Rules, 2003 will be held at the Patent Office, Kolkata and its branch offices at Mumbai, Chennai and New Delhi on 11th of November, 2003 (Tuesday) and 12th of November, 2003 (Wednesday) .

The schedule of the qualifying examination shall consist of followings:

a) Written Examination

11th November, 2003

Paper I - Patents Act and Rules - 100 Marks
(11.00 a.m. to 1.30 p.m.)
Paper II - Drafting and Interpretation of the Patent
Specifications and other documents - 100 Marks
( 2.30 p.m. to 5.00 p.m.)

b) The VIVA VOCE Examination will be held on the
12th of November, 2003 (Wednesday) at 11.00 a.m. - 100 Marks

Candidates interested to appear in qualifying examination are requested to make application on Form 23 with prescribed fee of Rs.500/- along with necessary documents to Patent Office, Kolkata so as to reach this office on or before 5th November 2003 (Wednesday).

Further a request for appearing in the qualifying examination under rule 110 is required to be made by the candidates on plain paper with prescribed fee of Rs. 200/- to Patent Office, Kolkata on or before 5th November, 2003 (Wednesday).

Qualifications for registration as Patent Agents.-

He is a citizen of India;
He has completed the age of 21 years;
He has obtained a [degree in science, engineering or technology from any university established under law for the time being in force] in the territory of India or possesses such other equivalent qualifications as the Central Government may specify in this behalf.
The qualifying marks for each written paper and for viva-voce examination as referred above shall be 50% each and a candidate shall be declared to have passed the examination only if he obtains and aggregate of 60% of the qualifying marks.
